Staycation at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel Sacramento

in sacramento, travel on 01/09/18

When’s the last time you took a staycation? If you can’t remember you need to book one immediately! Prior to Christmas, I had the opportunity to stay at the new Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Downtown Sacramento. Yes, Sacramento has a Kimpton! A stone’s throw from Golden 1 Center, the Sawyer Hotel is proudly located at DOCO, boasting 16-stories including a public lobby, restaurants, the Sacramento Kings executive offices, and luxury residences. Additionally, the Sawyer is home to rooftop bar and lounge Revival,  Punch Bowl Social and the forthcoming Echo & Rig Steakhouse. I had the pleasure of touring the property before it opened to the public and I was thrilled when the Kimpton team invited me to come back a few weeks later to enjoy a weekend as a guest.

Let me show you around!

Where does the name Sawyer come from? Glad you asked. The Sawyer is named after Lorenzo Sawyer, a state Supreme Court justice who handed down one of the state’s first environmental protection rulings during the Gold Rush. I think it’s the perfect way to pay homage to the history of the region. This is him in the picture!

Just kickin’ it in the awesome lobby!

The art that is around the building represents the fertile and lush Sacramento Valley.

Sleek and modern room accents

Just kickin it!

Around The Property

The property is gorgeous! You will want to just walk around and explore all of the nooks and crannies. The amenities are brand spankin new and include an on-site fitness center, Public bikes to explore the city, and in-room spa services just to name a few. Each room comes with a robe and yoga mat to enjoy during your stay. The hotel offers two different beverage services in the lobby through the day. In the morning, a coffee and tea bar and in the evening, a wine hour with a featured small bite. It’s a great way to meet others that are staying at the property. I love making new friends when I travel, and the same goes when I’m staycationing!

The pool, though. Can we pause for a moment to say hallelujah! Sacramento has a rooftop pool. I cannot wait to return in the summer to have a day full of fun under the sun!

Just hanging out on the 2nd Floor. Great area to hang out if you’re looking for a little quiet out of the room, or are at a meeting in the conference rooms.

The heated pool at The Sawyer

Need some serenity? Head to the pool deck to read a book or catch up on email. The pool is heated, but I wasn’t getting in on a cold day! 🙂

Peek-a-boo!

The Food

Ok, this is the most important thing, right? Haha! Since this was a “retreat” for me, I stayed onsite for food, and when I say on site, I really mean, IN BED! Room service was my best friend and I took advantage of it for breakfast and dinner.

I did take the elevator down to Revival for an early evening snack and cocktail. My favorite apps at Revival:

  • Marin Miyagi Oysters on the Half Shell
  • Chicken Fried Shrimp
  • Maine Lobster Corn Dogs
  • Ahi Tuna Carpaccio
  • Duck Confit Wings
  • Tater Tots. Trust me.

Are you seeing a theme? I love seafood, and I love the creative spin that Revival puts on these classic dishes. The cocktails change seasonally and my favorite right now is the Monkey’s Uncle, with Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch, Ginger, Lemon, Sage, St. George Absinthe Collins, Pebble, and a Lemon Wheel for garnish.

*Not pictured is the AMAZING CANNOT BE MISSED BURGER that I ate so fast I couldn’t even take a picture of it. It was good on its own, not even “room service good.” I have to find a way to get it back into my life somehow before my next stay!

Best room service breakfast I’ve ever had. Do not miss the Mary’s Chicken Hash!

“Where should I start?”

HOW I SPENT MY TIME

CJ was unable to join me this time, so I ended up making it a personal and work retreat. It was nice to relax, rest and get some things off of my plate that had been stacking for a long time. I keep a very busy schedule and this was the first weekend in ages that I didn’t have any plans. I had a bunch of magazines that I had been wanting to read and brought them with me. I popped some champagne, too! Why not, right? It was a really great time to brain dump some ideas I’ve had in my head forever and no great idea came to me over a bottle of water. Just sayin!

😉

Champagne and my favorite magazine? Yes, please!

Balancing rocks. I got hit in the face one second later. No joke!

Everyday I’m hustlin…

Must-Do’s Nearby

While there is plenty to do onsite at the Sawyer, if you get a little bit of cabin fever, you’re luckily in the middle of it all!

  • This is obvious, but catch an event at Golden 1 Center
  • Get styled by the MyStylist team at Macy’s
  • Need your caffeine fix during the day, the Starbucks Reserve Bar is just a block away.
  • Catch a flick at the newly renovated Century Theaters DOCO and XD. They have recliners and beer/wine!
  • Go to Napa without going to Napa: Visit Whired Wine Bar for a flight.
  • Walk down to Old Sacramento and realize it’s not so touristy after all. Stop by the Chef’s Olive Mix, Visions of Eden and top it off with a meal at Fat City!

So, are you convinced yet?! You need to make it down to the Sawyer. If it’s not for your personal retreat, do it for the Lobster Corn Dogs. No, seriously. Plan a getaway for you and your honey, or plan a girl’s weekend! Just don’t forget to invite me so I can buy you a drink! 🙂

Many thanks to the Sawyer team for having me!
