There are trips meant to help you rest and then there are trips that remind you how to celebrate life as it is. This stay at Devossion Playa del Carmen was a beautiful mix of both. While the visit came together as a brand partnership, it was one we said yes to without hesitation. After a full year of parenting, work, growth and transition, we were ready for a grown-up getaway to relax and celebrate!
Devossion by Live Aqua is located in Playa del Carmen in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, an easy, dreamy escape for a long weekend or extended reset. It’s about a two and a half hour flight from Dallas, easier to get to than many other destinations. Devossion is crafted exclusively for adults, but not in the “shh, whisper at the pool and have no fun” kind of way. It’s adults‑only, celebration-forward, socially engaging and so much fun. Built on the hospitality legacy of Live Aqua, Devossion carries the same high standards of service, culinary excellence and refined ambiance, but adds a spirited twist with connection and celebration at the core.
Their purpose is to create joyful spaces where adults can reconnect and you feel it immediately, not through slogans, but through the rhythm of the resort and the kindness of the staff.

My very first reaction? Wow. The architecture is beautiful, with lush grounds, open-air flow, multiple levels and sunlight that seems to shine through everything. It’s peaceful and serene. Luxury, but not opulent and more zen than flashy.
We were greeted by our butler team with cool towels infused with eucalyptus essential oil (a small sensory detail that immediately started the trip on the right foot) and a welcome wellness shot. Little did we know, warmth, care and thoughtful touches would be the theme of the entire stay.
After settling in, we stepped into our home base, the Horizon Suite. Morning light, floor‑to‑ceiling windows and gorgeous sea views from the well-sized patio. The decor is simple and clean, but thoughtfully laid out, with a separate lounge area and a luxury bathroom featuring a huge soaking tub, large vanity and dual sinks. Plus, access to 24-hour room service, a stocked minibar, a Nespresso coffee maker and access to the Devossion Lounge. We were welcomed with a fruit plate and a sweet note upon arrival and a bottle of bubbly to immediately toast to some quality time! Could it be any more perfect?

Butler service at Devossion isn’t stiff or formal; it’s the comforts-of-home version of luxury and our team was the BEST. We miss Guillermo, Luis and Martin so much because they truly felt like family. You may be wondering why you would have butler service during your vacation? Well, they give restaurants a heads up, suggest activities, book reservations, gather details and check on you throughout the day. They also keep a few thoughtful surprises up their sleeve, which after a year of catering to a one-year-old, was so welcomed!
Our suite also came with access to the Devossion Lounge on Level 5, a quiet skybox that serves rotating bites, premium bar service, coffee and a serene view. It quickly became one of my favorite places on property to hide out, and to pregame.
Special shoutouts where they’re due: Marcela in the lounge took care of us with the sweetest, most attentive energy.

I’ve done the all‑inclusive thing my fair share of times over the past decade, so I don’t say this lightly: Devossion’s culinary program is in a class of its own. What surprised me most wasn’t “how much food there was,” but how curated and delicious everything felt and how plentiful it was, without being overwhelming or compromising freshness.
Breakfast became a daily highlight. There’s a buffet, yes, but it’s beautifully presented, high quality and easy to enjoy without sensory overload. Brandon loved the omelette station, while I tried a little bit of everything à la carte. And then there’s the breakfast bar, marketed as a ‘choose your experience’ moment with a dedicated menu for mimosas, Bloody Marys and smoothies. Everything is fresh, juiced and prepared right there. You can taste the difference. I had a Bloody Mary one day and a smoothie another, and I was too busy enjoying to capture any photos so you’ll just have to take my word for it. 🙂 Our butler service offered to have hot coffee and tea and fruit sent to our room to start the day during our visit, which was great for a little extra time in our robes.
For lunch, we enjoyed the fare served poolside, which was often a mix of tacos, buffalo wings and other ‘snackies’ except these weren’t your average snackies. We tore it all up. I made a point to go to the Ceviche restaurant and ordered an Aguachilé dish as well as a short rib taco with chicharrones, topped with ceviche! No joke, and it was so good. I wish I were hungrier at the time because there were many more items on that menu to eat my way through. Next time, it’ll be my first stop!
Devossion offers several different dinner outposts, each with its own vibe, and we loved getting to explore a few cuisines during our stay: Japanese (sushi), a contemporary steakhouse and modern Italian.
On our first night, we kept it light with sushi, just a couple of rolls since we weren’t super hungry, but they absolutely hit the spot. One of the rolls even arrived flaming (so fun and honestly delicious) and it felt like the perfect welcome to Devossion’s celebration-forward energy. We ended the night with a nightcap and live cover music with a singer and guitarist, which somehow made the whole evening feel even more romantic.
Another night, we leaned into full date-night energy at the steakhouse. Our steaks were cooked to perfection (a filet for me, and a New York strip for my husband), but the starters deserve a round of applause: incredible pork belly, a classic Caesar, and a roasted cauliflower dish that had no business being that good. We paired it with Casa Madero 3V red blend. If there’s Mexican wine on the list, I’m always seeking out Casa Madero. It did not disappoint.
Another highlight was Fiorella, the open-air Italian restaurant at the epicenter of the property. It’s one of those spaces where you feel the pulse of the resort while still feeling like you’re tucked away. We began with a couple of flavorful starters like risotto balls and a light smoked salmon frisée salad. Our mains of squid ink risotto and lasagna bolognese were delectable. I ended that meal with an espresso martini because sometimes dessert should be drinkable. And yes, it was done right.

On our last night, Brandon opted for an early wind-down, and I leaned into a little late-night “me time” and made a solo stop at the speakeasy to close out the trip. I’d scoped it out earlier in the trip when it was closed (thanks to the butler team), so seeing it glowing with the music pumping felt like stepping into a hidden little world!
Moody lighting, beautiful cocktails and the chicest vibe. Since I had the espresso martini not long before, I stayed on the vodka train and ordered a cosmo, and honestly, I had the same question Carrie asked in the SATC movie, “Whyyyyy did we ever stop drinking these?”

The pool energy shifts throughout the day, but it’s consistently a mature vibe and you’re not going to have a problem finding a good seat. We booked a cabana for a little privacy in the open air on one of the days and even with a light drizzle, it was still lovely. We were treated to cool towels, branded sunglasses, a hand fan and attentive staff who seem to appear exactly when you need a refresh. And when you book a cabana, a bottle of Ferrari Brut is included, not an upsell. This is another example of where Devossion’s elevated service really shines.
Our last full day was spent in maximum chill out mode. The pool weather was perfect, so we decided to fully unwind before our spa appointment. The energy that day was just a little more party, which I attribute to being closer to the weekend. Margaritas and Modelo’s were a-flowing and we had the kind of carefree joy where you forget you’re capturing content. Brandon and I were being silly, dancing in the water like kids and singing songs. So grateful for the service that Notario and Yessy provided us on our pool days.

This might be the most important information I give you about the resort. Every day at 1:26pm, Devossion hosts a champagne toast, which is a nod to their address and a daily invitation to celebrate the moment you’re in. The team plays music, blow bubbles across the pool terrace, pour the glasses and then hand them out like party favors. I knew it was coming, so I was ready every day and it was genuinely so fun. The last day was even more lit and I’m now convinced I need a sip at 1:26 no matter where I am. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, but it’s 1:26 at Devossion!

The Cenote Spa at Devossion is one of the most beautiful spaces on the property. Tucked away from the main buzz of the resort, the spa feels like a hidden retreat, which is a true balance to Devossion’s celebration-forward vibe (in the best way). Devossion describes it as the place you come for the celebrations and stay for the silence, and that’s exactly what it felt like.
We booked a couples massage (a treat from the resort), and it was a serene way to wind down from the day. Even if you’re only in the spa for a short window, it’s worth prioritizing. It’s not just about treatments, it’s really a full-body reset kind of space. After our service, we spent time in the Cenote, with a cup of tea and just zoned out.

If I’m being honest, this resort just jumped to the top of our list. Devossion by Live Aqua is special: yes, it’s relaxing, but it’s really for adults who want a little more than relaxation. It’s for people who want a resort that feels elevated but approachable, social but not chaotic, restorative but not sleepy, with food and service that truly stand out. It’s ideal for couples who want ease, friends who want to gather, and anyone craving a celebration-forward escape with exceptional hospitality, strong design, and memorable meals.
Devossion doesn’t just give you a vacation — it gives you a rhythm. One where grown-ups can laugh, sip, reset, and celebrate. And honestly? We all need more of that. If you’re craving an adults-only escape that feels joyful, beautiful, and full of heart, Devossion delivers. It’s the kind of place that makes it hard to imagine going back to “regular” all-inclusive life.
First, take the last flight home. Leaving early felt like a tease because this is a resort you want to linger in, and it’s genuinely hard to say goodbye.
Second, the resort is great year round. I typically travel to Mexico between April and August, but visiting in December officially converted me. The weather was perfection. I’m talking warm and breezy days, with noticeably less humidity. I already know we’ll be making a December getaway a tradition.
I’m already planning my return trip with friends… and you should too. Start planning + book your stay directly on their website.
