Cabo Travel Guide: What to Do, Stay and Play

cabo travel guide

Since returning home from Cabo I have been having serious withdrawal. It’s easy to become a beach bum, and when you wake up and go to sleep to the sound of the ocean, you start to get used to it! Cabo is such an easy trip for those on the West Coast. No matter if you want to have a relaxing experience or one that’s full of adventure, Cabo is the destination for you.

How to get there

Alaska Airlines’ direct flight to Cabo from Sacramento is the way to go, and I’m not just saying that because I’m from Sac! Even if you live between Bay Area airports and ours, the ease of parking, checking in and getting through security cannot be beaten. The flight time is about three and a half hours. Since Alaska acquired Virgin America, they now offer the most nonstop flights to the most destinations from the West Coast if you decide that SMF is not a reasonable airport for you. I will say though, if Cabo is on your list, you want to book your trip now! The direct flight is very reasonable.

What to do

There are so many things you could do in Cabo, from zip lining to fishing. We did the zip lining tour with Wild Canyon Adventures and it was very cool! They also offer bungee jumping and ATV rides. For the fisherman out there, definitely consider a fishing charter. I also recommend no matter how you do it, get out on the water for a boat cruise. The water is gorgeous, the Cabo landscape is even more gorgeous and you may even see the manta ray’s jumping from the water to say hello!

Or, you could simply opt to do nothing. I mean, with the ocean, sand and a breeze, that sounds pretty perfect, too!

Where to Stay

Katie and I stayed at the Fiesta Americana, which was a beautiful and expansive property. If you are looking for more of a break from reality and truly want to disconnect from the outside world, I would stay there again. Their spa is amazing and there are so many food and beverage options. Not to mention, you can golf at the neighboring property! Some hotels my friends have stayed at and raved about are the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, Hilton Los Cabos, and Paradisus Los Cabos. You could also look at Airbnb if you are doing a family trip or a bachelorette party!

Where to Play

During the daytime, Cabo veterans recommended The Office and Mango Deck at Medano Beach so you should make your way there for the ultimate Cabo experience. Senor Frogs is right in the Marina area and there is some great people watching to be had, believe me! At night, consider a bar crawl in town and live it up! Make sure you stop by Rip’s Bar, which is near a lot of other bars too. You HAVE to order the rainbow shots at Rip’s. Trust me. Rip’s is near Cabo Wabo and The Giggling Marlin, too.
