The Trench Coat

spring layers

The weather is all over the place where we live. Sunny and warm one day, and now the forecast says that rain is in our future! If you’re dealing with weather that can be unpredictable and can change at the drop of a hat, you’ll need to layer appropriately, and there’s no better place to start than with a timeless classic: the trench coat.

This look is great for a day at the office without having to change outfits for an after hours engagement. It’s simple yet the key pieces in the outfit make it work hard (or hardly work). Let’s start with the sweater.

I’m not sure if you have one, but investing in a sleeveless turtleneck is a smart move. It’s a basic every woman should own – sweater or knit material. It’s an easy layer to get you through spring (and summer nights, too) that can be dressed up or down, plus it adds a level of classic chic to anything you have on. To me, it has more versatility than a long sleeve turtleneck, which is how we want to build our wardrobes! If you want to add some accessories to your turtleneck look, try a long layered necklace, or statement necklace with multiple tiers. Now to the the bottom.

The jogger pant trend has survived a few seasons and for good reason. When has it ever felt so comfortable to be on trend? Prints are fun, but a neutral solid is dressy with the right top. Don’t forget about your feet! Footwear dictates how the bottoms will be perceived. If I were to wear a loafer or ballet flat, it would’ve toned the look down. Play with it and decide what works best for you and your style!
