Today is National Coffee Day and I have to share my favorite Sacramento coffee shops! We locals are aware, but you should know that Sacramento has no shortage of amazing coffee. It’s a thing, just ask around. Some people are very exclusive about what coffee they drink and shops they frequent, but I like to dance around a bit depending on my mood. In honor of the holiday, here’s a list of my favorite Sacramento coffee shops and favorite drinks to order!
Identity is my little secret place and my favorite of the Sacramento coffee shops. The vibe is ultra chill, unpretentious and the coffee is GOOD. I love the wood tables there and the larger community table is great for gathering friends. I love how Identity uses its space to support community events, including The Blog Bloc. I went to them with my idea and they were in full support before it came to fruition and they set up an area for us to gather a couple of times a month. They will always have my respect and admiration for supporting other people’s dreams.
Favorite drink: Sparkling Cascara, although, I LOVE their Nicaragua coffee and using my French press at home.
Sacramento and Temple Coffee are practically synonymous. The team over there were some of the first in Sacramento to really bring craft coffee to the forefront. They have numerous locations in Sacramento and Davis, and if you are wanting a vibrant and upbeat coffeehouse vibe, this is your spot. Depending on the time of day that you are visiting, and the location, you might not be able to find a seat! My favorite Temple location, even though I love the penny floor at the K Street location, is the S Street location. The patio can’t be beaten (and neither can this coffee arrow)!
Favorite Drink: Iced coffee, room for cream. On a cold day, vanilla latte.
Insight has many locations around town, but the Powerhouse location is just a couple blocks away from my house. I come here when I need to focus. The cafe is a little small, but there is no shortage of great space. From school desks to a large communal table, to a cozy couch area, I can get blogging and my admin work done there. It’s also a great meeting post because it’s convenient to all freeways.
Favorite drink: It’s a tie between a Sweet Latte and Matcha Latte (I know matcha’s not coffee – but delicious)
If you’re not paying attention, you may just walk by The Trade, but you shouldn’t because you’d be missing out on a hidden gem of a Sacramento coffee shop. You have to go in, say hi to Matt and Amanda, and order a cup. If you’re a member of their coworking space, you can also order coffee and put it on your tab, which makes it easy if you’re rushing to get something out the door or are having a meeting there and want to take care of someone else’s coffee without the awkward “No, really, I got it” credit card dance.
Favorite drink: The NOLA!
OK, Old Soul is one of my favorites because they are the only coffee shop in town that serves actual breakfast versus just pastries and fruit. Each one of their locations has a different vibe, and while I definitely have a few go-to’s, I’m really loving the new Capitol Mall location. It’s also the closest to my house and is a great place to get things done, and people watch when you need a break.
Favorite drink: Cold Brew
First, let me tell you that we are SO lucky to have a Reserve Bar in Sacramento. There are less than 50 in the country! This Starbucks experience has a bit of prestige, which falls right into The Kachet Life’s vibe (Kachet means prestige). Different than the Reserve roastery in Seattle, the bars offer an intimate small-lot coffee experience. In addition to the traditional menu, they also feature rare and exotic coffees on their reserve menu, which changes seasonally. You can see pictures of the space in this post from my Girlfriend Gift Exchange.
Despite my rant about some of their patrons several months back, I really love The Mill. It is the perfect neighborhood spot with a hidden gem of a back patio. I’ve never been out there and had more than another pair at a table. The lattes are delicious and the teas are equally impressive. This has nothing to do with coffee, but I do dig how their female baristas dress. Their simple, minimalist style is timeless.
Favorite Drink: Vanilla Bean Latte. If I’m feeling really boss, I’ll add a waffle.
