A Visit to LangeTwins Family Winery

On my recent California visit, I was able to visit LangeTwins Winery, right in the heart of Lodi Wine Country with my good friend Christina. Being from Sacramento, Lodi has always been a go-to for me when it comes to experiencing great wines (hello, Zinfandel), but my first visit to LangeTwins upped the ante quite a bit and I can’t wait to return.

About LangeTwins Winery

LangeTwins gets its name from Brad and Randall Lange, twins and fourth-generation Lodi winegrape farmers. The brothers grew up and raised their families on the land that the winery still farms on. Today the winery is led by the fifth-generation of the Lange family, with roles spanning across both the winery and viticulture teams.

LangeTwins Winery Tour

Driving up to the winery, its size is very impressive. LangeTwins is involved in the wine industry in many ways, from growing wine to crushing, storing it, and bottling it for other brands in addition to their brand label. I was ready to have my mind blown on the tour!

We had the pleasure of meeting and touring with Marissa Lange, Randall’s daughter and President of LangeTwins. Marissa was incredibly down-to-earth yet incredibly striking with passion for the family brand. She shared her great-great-grandparents’ history of setting down roots in Lodi by growing non-irrigated watermelons and how things changed when they purchased a vineyard in 1916. That’s where it all began. The twins’ father (Marissa’s grandfather) gained the experience and knowledge to carry on the family’s roots in agriculture and would set the tone for the future.

Through the winery tour, we were able to witness firsthand what the hard work, sweat and tears over the years afforded the operation to be of its magnitude in the present. We also learned about LangeTwins’ commitment to sustainability, starting from the vine (with a balanced ecosystem for soil and water) all the way to the glass (with renewable energy in the winery including bottling and packaging).  It’s an ongoing mission as part of being a generational business.

The LangeTwins Tasting Room Experience

After touring the winery and learning more about the process, I was thrilled to visit the LangeTwins tasting room. I fell in love with a few different LangeTwins varietals over the holidays, so it was truly a full circle moment.

Tastings are by appointment Tuesday-Sunday. This is to ensure each guest is taken care of, and if you happen to be out that way and want to stop by, give them a call to see if it lines up. You’re able to curate your tasting experience by either choosing a designated wine flight, building your own or you can enjoy a bottle with friends! There’s also the option to book a full winery tour and tasting, which if this hasn’t encouraged you to do so, just go ahead and do it!

I opted for a build-your-own wine flight, kicking off with the Aglianico Rosé. From there I enjoyed several of their reds including a unique opportunity to try two Cabernets made the same year from vineyards that are a few miles apart from one another. The comparison tasting blew my mind. While they’re the same varietal and both delicious, they tasted completely different because of the microclimates. Those are the experiences that I love to have when wine tasting in Lodi. The region is very approachable yet the wines are superior, and LangeTwins is no exception.

My tasting was capped with a visit to the barrel room, where we got a peek at some aging wines and even some predictions on how they’ll taste once bottled. I can’t wait!
