What a Sunday Funday CJ & I had at Device Brewing Co.! Historically, we seem to go to breweries when we are out of town. It doesn’t matter if we are in Sonoma County or in L.A. County (Torrance, to be specific), we are sipping some local brews and watching the locals do their thing. We live in Midtown, and with the Ice Blocks being so easily accessible, we venture over there at least once a week. Device Brewing Co. has been on my list, and the last time we drove by, I told CJ how much I wanted to check the place out for date night. A sunny day arrived after a ton of rain and we decided to go on a day date. Our date nights are usually on Thursdays, but we haven’t gone on one since before Christmas so the timing was perfect.
Device Brewing Co. is a local brewing company in Sacramento specializing in West Coast style brews. They’ve been around since 2013, and co-owner and head brewer Ken Anthony was born to do this. The “Our Story” section of their website shares Ken’s first interactions with beer stemming from a tradition with his father. I was also surprised to learn that he left his engineering job for to pursue his passion alongside his wife. Device Brewing’s original taproom is off of Power Inn Road, but they have made their mark in Midtown at the Ice Blocks (and will be opening in the Pocket area).
The taproom is bright and spacious with plenty of seating to accommodate various sizes of groups. Their beer selection features staple and seasonal offerings and while they do not have a kitchen, you are able to bring your own food in from the neighboring businesses. In fact, Mendocino Farms had a table when we visited and their team was giving out coupons. Smart! A couple of community organizations had a pop up on the patio there and a BarkHappy benefit was happening. Clearly, this is a spot that attracts a wide range of people, which to me, is a representation of the best part of Sacramento.
CJ and I ordered a flight each, which gives a 2 oz. pour of five beers. Of course we ordered different ones and OF COURSE, we enjoyed them while playing Uno! In true CJ & Kachet fashion, we brought our own cards from home. It was a great afternoon and we can’t wait to go back at night when they turn the string lights on!! Ooh wee, I love a little twinkle in the “sky.”
Enjoy a couple of pics from our visit. 🙂
