The weather’s steadily getting warmer and you may be looking for a signature drink. Why not the margarita? Of course, Cinco de Mayo is the perfect day to enjoy one, but why not keep the cocktail in rotation? It’s a tried and true classic, making its debut sometime around 1940 in Mexico when a bartender at the Rancho La Gloria Restaurant created a drink for an aspiring actress named Marjorie King who was allergic to all hard alcohol other than tequila.
The classic marg is the perfect blend of sweet and sour, and these 5 recipes up the ante quite a bit! With all of the different takes on the cocktail, there is one for everyone.
1. You know that I love me some sparkling wine, so you know that I went gaga for this Champagne Margarita by 40 Aprons. The bubbles give it a lovely little fizz and you can make it as sweet or as tart as you’d like.
2. Two words: Coconut Margarita. This recipe by Foodie Crush is too indulgent, and the best part is that it’s not too bad for you. With a little bit of coconut milk in this bad boy, one sip will transport you to a cabana on a sandy beach.
3. The Frosted Petticoat really did it big with this Rosa Picante Margarita with Patron. Jalapeno oil and rose water? We’ll toast to that.
4. This Spicy Honey & Grapefruit Margarita by The Whole Smith’s is simple to make but not simple to taste. The heat from the cayenne and jalapeno will make your tastebuds dance while the honey makes it a sweet heat!
5. You puree the strawberries, and then you make your own pineapple simple syrup?! Um, this Strawberry Bottomed Pineapple Margarita by How Sweet Eats can’t get made fast enough.
